Macy’s doesn’t know how to host a small event, and their July 4th celebration is proof of that. While many cities throughout the country will have a fireworks display, none will match the excitement of this NYC Event. Both locals and guests at NY Hotels will gather along the East River and other viewing spots to watch one of the most spectacular fireworks displays in the country.

The first Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular was held in 1976 to celebrate the country’s bicentennial. Since then, organizers have found ways to make the celebration fresh and new each year. Billed as “America’s Biggest Birthday Bash,” thousands of spectators arrive well in advance of the show in order to stake out the best viewing spots.

An original score is arranged each year and the fireworks are set off in a way that coincides with the music. Speaking of music, live musical performances are also part of this NYC Event.

While certainly not the only way to celebrate the 4th of July in New York City, this is certainly the most popular. The barges will launch the fireworks from the East River. Organizers say that the best viewing spots will be the East Side of Lower Manhattan, Brooklyn Bridge Park, and Brooklyn Heights Promenade. Note that many attendees will get there early to get a good spot, so organizers recommend arriving by late afternoon.
